On September 8, 2021, Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation, arrived in Dimitrovgrad (Ulyanovsk region) on a working visit in order to monitor the construction of the multipurpose fast neutron research reactor, MBIR, on the basis of the Research Institute of Atomic Reactors.

Director General of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation visited the construction site of the MBIR reactor. At the Slavsky Research and Cultural Center, he held a working meeting on the establishment of the International Research Center and the development of the soft infrastructure around the project site.

Director General of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation claimed that the MBIR project has moved to the phase of installation work, which is in full swing. During his visit, Likhachev emphasized the importance of keeping to the work schedule and discussed with specialists the key production aspects of the project's development.

Director General of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation emphasized that the construction of the MBIR reactor is a breakthrough international project, which enables us to develop the Gen IV nuclear power plants, and that the MBIR facility is, in a sense, a scientific "think-tank" of the nuclear industry in the 21st century.

“The Multipurpose Fast Research Reactor Project is a combination of the industry competencies of scientists, engineers and machine builders to create a unique world-class facility. It is also a unique construction project, a collaboration of engineering companies, construction, industry and private organizations, which allows us to move forward at a dynamic pace. Finally, it is an international collaboration. We are ready to provide a part of the plant's capacities to solve problems to our foreign partners,” said Likhachev.

The main issue of the working meetings was creating a modern soft infrastructure in Dimitrovgrad, commensurate with the status of an international scientific center, which will be established on the basis of the innovative reactor, were discussed. To this end, Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation and the government of the Ulyanovsk region signed a package of agreements on cooperation to create a modern soft infrastructure around the MBIR construction site.

The most comfortable urban environment is supposed to be created in Dimitrovgrad by the time the research reactor is put into operation. It will be available for scientists from all over the world, working at the IRC MBIR, as well as for local residents.
