On October 6, 2020, in the city of Dimitrovgrad, Ulyanovsk Region, a meeting of participants in the construction of the MBIR nuclear research facility and the multifunctional radiochemical research complex (RRC) of SSC RIAR took place. The coordination meeting was chaired by Gennady Sakharov, Director for Capital Investments, State Construction Supervision and State Expertise of ROSATOM. Within the framework of the meeting, the interested parties discussed the implementation of the action plan for the construction of MBIR and RRC in Dimitrovgrad.
The exceptional technical characteristics of MBIR will allow solving a wide range of research problems at the international level. The developments, thanks to which the innovative reactor will be implemented, will in the future become the basis for the creation of new competitive and safe nuclear power plants.
In the course of construction, information BIM modeling technology is being actively introduced. The digital model is already being used for plan-fact analysis, determining the required amount of land work, coordinating the movement of construction equipment around the site, and also for remote control over projects at the construction stage.
Chairman of the coordination meeting Gennady Sakharov drew the attention of the participants to the fact that ROSATOM is the leader in innovative construction in the country:
“At the moment MBIR is the most technologically advanced project in Russia. It is Rosatom that is creating a large-scale state scientific facility for the first time using an information BIM model that allows monitoring the construction progress in real-time. Thanks to the introduction of this technology, the state corporation has acquired new unique specialists - experts in BIM modeling ”.
Sergey Kiverov, Deputy Director for Facilities under Construction at SSC RIAR, spoke about the progress of the construction program in 2020, and also presented to the meeting participants a forecast of the implementation of the plan for the construction of MBIR and RRC facilities:
“Creation of a Multipurpose Fast Breeder Research Reactor at the SSC RIAR site is the most important project for the long-term development of the experimental potential of the domestic nuclear industry, which will allow Russia to provide leadership in the development of innovative reactor technologies for the next half-century. At this stage, the participants in the construction are able to fully implement the planned program for the construction of facilities, ”said a representative of the scientific division of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.
ROSATOM has set itself an ambitious goal of completing the work on the reactor ahead of schedule. In this regard, the meeting participants noted the key events of the project in 2020:
- obtaining a positive opinion from the Glavgosexpertiza of Russia and a permit for the construction of MBIR;
- Carrying out procurement procedures and concluding contracts for the manufacture and supply of equipment with a long production cycle;
- resumption of construction and installation work on the site.
By today, active work at the facility has been fully resumed. The construction of fire extinguishing tanks, a block of auxiliary buildings of the main reactor building is underway, the formation and arrangement of a site for the placement of a construction and installation base are underway.
About 200 builders are already working at the construction site, including engineering and technical personnel, 26 units of equipment are involved. In 2021, the contractor will increase its workforce to 500 people. More than 100 employees with engineering education will also start implementing projects, and the number of equipment will increase to 112 units. In the future, about 1300 - 1500 specialists will be employed on the construction of a research reactor in Dimitrovgrad.
